Otford, which sits within the idyllic Darent Valley at the foot of the North Downs, is one of those many postcard perfect Kent villages that hasn’t become too over-polished. With a history dating back to Saxon times, Otford has a strong association with the Archbishops of Canterbury, who built an impressive medieval palace on this site centuries ago. Some of the old Archbishop’s Palace is still extant, so the community has an historical character and a sense of time. Today, about 4000 people live in Otford; although Otford is a busy commuter village, it still has plenty of green space and a peaceful and relaxed village atmosphere, with duck pond, timber-framed houses and spacious parklands.

Otford railway station provides links to both London and towns throughout Kent; with the M25 and A21 very close by, road travel is easy. The countryside surrounding Otford is very popular with walkers and cyclists, particularly along the North Downs Way; there are also many other attractions nearby, including National Trust properties (Chartwell and Knole), English Heritage properties (Lullingstone Roman Villa and Eynsford Castle) and Hever Castle, Penshurst Place and the numerous vineyards in western Kent attract people all year round.
