Strood is a lively town sitting on the northwest edge of Kent, just across the River Medway from Rochester. It's often seen as a gateway between rural Kent and the bustle of London, with a mix of residential streets, shopping areas and green spaces. The town centre has had a bit of a revamp in recent years, and there's a solid community feel to it, with plenty of familiar faces and local pride.

Strood has roots that stretch right back to Roman times, with its location on Watling Street giving it a strong historical footing. Strood's a commuter hotspot, with fast trains to London St Pancras, Victoria and Charing Cross, plus easy connections to other parts of Kent. The A2 runs right past it, leading to the M2 and linking up with the wider motorway network. London City Airport is just under an hour away, and Gatwick isn't much further. Buses run regularly to Rochester, Chatham, and further afield, and the river crossings make things handy for getting around the Medway towns.
