Stoney Stanton is a largish village that is located in the Blaby district of Leicestershire. Granite quarrying has left a lasting mark on Stoney Stanton, and one former quarry is now Stoney Cove, the well-known inland diving centre that gives this Leicestershire village a rather unusual claim to fame. Around 3,800 people live here, among older cottages, newer estates and countryside to the south-west of Leicester city. The settlement itself is much older, with medieval St Michael's Church surviving near its centre. It was mentioned in the 1086 Domesday Book as Stantone. Local roads put the M69, A5 and nearby towns within easy reach, while Narborough offers rail connections for those who like to take the train. Shops, pubs, schools and community facilities serve the day-to-day needs of villagers. Further afield, the National Trust-owned Stoneywell and English Heritage's Kirby Muxloe Castle add a dose of local history if you fancy a day out.
