Great Glen is a village and civil parish that is located in the Harborough district of Leicestershire. It has grown into a good-sized village of around 3,500 people, yet its old centre beside the River Sence still feels pleasantly separate from the nearby city of Leicester. Recorded as Glen in the Domesday Book, the settlement has medieval roots, with St Cuthbert's Church amongst its longstanding landmarks. These days there's a useful mix of shops, pubs, schools and sports facilities, while the A6 makes Leicester and Market Harborough easy runs by car or bus. Nearby, Wistow Rural Centre and Brocks Hill provide something different for an afternoon out. History hunters can venture further out to the National Trust-owned Stoneywell or Kirby Muxloe Castle (English Heritage).
