Buckler’s Hard is an historical hamlet located on the banks of the Beaulieu River in the New Forest, perfectly positioned in a tranquil environment with strong historical connections to the Royal Navy. Buckler's Hard gained its historical significance as a shipbuilding site around the 1700s where a number of ships were constructed for Nelson’s fleet including those involved in the Battle of Trafalgar. Buckler's Hard has a very small population today and already feels like a piece of preserved old Hampshire rather than a contemporary hamlet due to the rows of traditional cottages lining the riverside, the scenic walks along the riverbanks, and the mariner’s museum which adds to the charm of the area. You can easily visit the neighbouring villages of Beaulieu, Exbury Gardens, and Lepe Country Park as attractive day trip destinations. Since the surrounding New Forest National Park has wild ponies, woodlands, and quiet country roads, these features create a relaxing environment. Buckler's Hard can be accessed predominantly by road and has easy access to Brockenhurst railway station which is a short distance away, and Southampton Airport which is approximately 40 minutes distant depending on traffic conditions.
