Wherwell is a quaint Hampshire village on the banks of the River Test, located near Andover in a picturesque setting with many charming riverside cottages and old thatched houses that give this little community a lot of its character. Wherwell's long history dates back to the Saxon period when Wherwell Abbey was located in the centre of Wherwell, and unfortunately most of it was destroyed by Henry VIII’s dissolution of the monasteries. Currently, Wherwell has a population of less than 1000 residents, and it offers a great deal of tranquillity and serenity, as well as being a great escape from modern hustle and bustle.

In addition, a few popular activities in Wherwell include fishing, walking, and spotting wildlife that frequent the River Test and the many trails that follow the river through Wherwell and the surrounding countryside. There are other nearby attractions such as Mottisfont Abbey and the City of Winchester are all easily accessible from Wherwell within 20 miles of the village. The majority of the transport links are through the road system, with the A303 being the closest major road; there are also rail services available from Andover and Winchester, and Southampton Airport is located approximately 40 minutes from Wherwell, depending on traffic conditions.

We hope you found this Wherwell tourist map useful for your visit to the area.
