The history of Danbury runs back over a thousand years, and the village was even recorded in the Domesday Book. A little further out, you've got the ruins of St Peter's Chapel at Bradwell and the atmospheric Layer Marney Tower.

Essex has so much to offer once you start looking beyond the obvious. Head to Maldon for a walk along the estuary, fresh fish and chips and a look at the old Thames sailing barges.
