Located in West Sussex, Steyning is a small market town located at the foot of the South Downs and is still very much alive with charm from centuries gone by. Steyning dates back to Saxon times and was once one of the area's main trading routes due to the River Adur, with the majority of its timber-framed houses and flint buildings still standing today. Approximately 6,000 residents currently call this place home, which gives the town an active/vibrant but very relaxed atmosphere, due to there being more independent shops, cafes and pubs than there are chains. The A283 connects Steyning to Shoreham, Storrington and Worthing, with nearby train stations located in Shoreham -by-Sea & Lancing with services to Brighton & London. The South Downs Way attracts numerous walkers and cyclists, and visitors who prefer to take in a bit of history can also visit Bramber Castle and Chanctonbury Ring. Devil's Dyke and Nymans are both popular spots maintained by National Trust, but English Heritage visitors prefer to visit either Bramber Castle or explore Lewes' historic centre. Overall, this is the type of town where antiques, tea-rooms and muddy boots seem like they were always meant to be found together.
We hope you found this Steyning tourist map useful for your visit to the area.
