Arundel in West Sussex is one of the most beautiful towns you will find, filled with historic buildings, old streets, antique shops and the dominant presence of the massive Arundel Castle (which was built by the Normans). The town developed around the 11th Century Norman castle and remains strongly medieval in character, displaying both narrow lanes and river banks as well as many old coaching inns, adding character to the town. Currently, approximately 4,000 people reside in this charming town; however, during the summer months, due to the sheer volume of tourist traffic through the town, it appears to be much busier than its population alone would indicate. The town of Arundel is served by Arundel Rail Station, which provides transport to both London and Brighton & Hove, as well as to Portsmouth; along with main roads A27 and A29 that lead to nearby towns and cities, accessing Arundel is not difficult at all. The castle, cathedral, riverside walks, adventure trails, and South Downs National Park draw many travelers to this corner of West Sussex. In close proximity to Arundel lies the National Trust's Slindon Estate and English Heritage's Amberley Castle, Cissbury Ring, and Bramber Castle (the latter two are near to Amberley). The many tea shops, art galleries, and muddy hiking boots make Arundel a place where it is easy to appreciate a variety of different experiences!
We hope you found this Arundel tourist map useful for your visit to the area.
