Fishbourne is a village located by the water in West Sussex. It is on the western side of Chichester and is known for being home to the Roman Palace and also having easy access to Chichester Harbour. The area has been inhabited for thousands of years, dating back to Roman times, and as a result, Fishbourne Roman Palace was discovered and became an important place to explore archaeologically. Today, there live around 2,000 people there, and the village has a very quiet atmosphere while still being able to use the shops and amenities available in Chichester.
The Fishbourne train station provides access for those travelling by rail directly to Portsmouth, Brighton or London via Chichester, and the A27 is a relatively simple road structure. Many people who visit Fishbourne will see the Roman mosaics, either walk around the harbour or sail around Bosham or Dell Quay, and then continue on to the South Downs, which are just a short drive to the south of Fishbourne. There are also sites owned by the National Trust such as Uppark House and East Head nearby, as well as English Heritage sites like Boxgrove Priory and the City Walls and Cathedral at Chichester. All in all, Fishbourne is a place where you can enjoy the views from the harbour, visit old pubs and enjoy walking in the mud!
